My family is a strong and loving family. years of suffering and exile is personally ingrained in so many of us. And so, seeing the love and warmth that - after so many years of estrangement from each other - we are all together laughing and basking in each others' ever amazing present, is truly a gift beyond the realm of imagination. Each one of my relatives has such a bright and shining soul that protrudes care, compassion, and understanding. Don't even get me started on all of their genius creativity.
I only wish that all of my brothers and sisters out there could put all their differences aside and come together. If only we could give it a chance even if we pretend at first. Our purpose isn't to destroy each other.
To give, and let give, so there would be no need to take. Only receive.
My wonderful grandfather, the Nikolsburge Rebbe is seen above (right) celebrating the Bar Mitzvah of that respectable gentleman seated beside him. It was incredibly moving and emotional witnessing the longing that the older gentleman had as he put on teffilin (phylacteries) for his first time. A longing I've felt so many times in life. now I recognize it as a calling to return from the greatest source in the universe.
later in the evening we took a trip down to Williamsburg, in Brooklyn, new York to see my mother's mother the sweetest lady you'll ever meet... my bubby... and she has a twin. what an incredible time for reconnection.
